If there is one player in Germany who has captured the imagination of Bayern Munich fans this season, it is Paul Wanner.
Wanner, who is on loan at Heidenheim this season from Bayern Munich, has been an enigma. With four goals and two assists in four games across all competitions, Wanner is rapidly displaying that his game has evolved to the point where he can make an impact in Bavaria.
After a loan to SV Elversberg last season, Heidenheim was the next logical step for the 18-year-old — a place where he would have the chance to learn, develop, grow — and get a lot of playing time — in Germany’s first division.
So far, so good…and Bayern Munich might have already seen enough.
According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich wants to bring Wanner fully back into the fold next season:
Heidenheim is expected to be Paul Wanner’s last loan station. From next season, Wanner wants to establish himself at FC Bayern.
The big question is where — and how — would Wanner fit into the mix without being completely roadblocked. Jamal Musiala occupies the No. 10 position (though there is at least a little doubt about his future in Bavaria), while Bayern Munich has also been closely linked to Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz, who also functions best as a No. 10.
Wanner can play as a winger, but Bayern Munich is currently overflowing with talent at that position as well.
Those are details that can be worked out later, but also factors that might not be easy to figure out. Regardless, Wanner looks like he is ready for the big time and the Bavarians seem eager to put him back on the pitch at the Allianz Arena.
