Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has vowed that his club will do all they can to keep Manchester City target Jamal Musiala.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that “top European clubs” are keeping close tabs on the former Chelsea player, whose contract expires at the end of the next season. Asked about how talks over an extension are progressing, Haider replied:
“We want to try everything to keep him as long as possible. In my opinion, he could become the second Thomas Muller. He could stay here for the next 20 years.”
Musiala has had a strong start to the season for both club and country, prompting more speculation about his future, but Bayern seem determined to keep hold of the 21-year-old.
What sort of chance do City have of tempting the player?
It was reported back in April that the German is keen on returning to the UK. He grew up in the country, having been in Chelsea’s academy, but he also wants to experience playing in the Premier League.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Musiala (along with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona) but the Cityzens would have the best chance of tempting him back to this country. Their financial muscle could convince both his club and the player to make the move next summer.
Why are the club so keen on Musiala?
There is a good chance that Kevin De Bruyne will leave the Etihad when his contract expires next June. The Belgian is now 33 years of age, and he has been linked with moves to the United States and Saudi Arabia.
Ilkay Gundogan won’t remain at City for the long term either despite returning from Barca earlier this summer. Replacing both of them is a huge undertaking but Musiala certainly has the talent to make up for their loss.
