The buyout clause in the contract of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland “becomes active” next year, according to HITC.
The website confirms that the Norwegian is in negotiations over signing an extension at the Etihad but they believe the existing clauses will stay intact.
Haaland is keen to retain some say in his own future, which is something which was backed up by a report that Marca published last weekend.
The Spanish publication originally revealed that the forward’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has been holding extensive talks with the Cityzens over a new deal.
However, they claimed that the release clause won’t be changed, giving the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain the opportunity to make a bid for him in future transfer windows.
How much is Haaland’s buyout fee?
HITC claim that the Norwegian’s clause is worth around £150m but it is important to point out that other sources have said the figure is lower.
Whatever the actual fee, Haaland’s price tag is pretty substantial but it does make it clear that Haaland is keeping his options open, even if he puts pen to paper on a new contract soon.
City will need to strengthen their frontline
With Haaland’s clause being retained, and considering the departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window, the Premier League champions may be wise to invest in another striker in the not-too-distant future.
Reliable reports over the past few weeks had suggested that scouts were eyeing a bid for Orri Oskarsson but the Icelandic international has since joined Real Sociedad from FC Copenhagen.
We may well see other forwards being linked with moves to City. It is an area of the pitch that could do with being reinforced.
