Tottenham Hotspur have a plethora of young talents at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal, and with high potential in the roster comes responsibility to ensure that their development is managed in the right environment.
One of the highly regarded Hotspur Way academy graduates is facing problems getting regular game time under his belt, which comes as a concern for the chiefs at the club.
The Lilywhites starlet Dane Scarlett has been watching limited game time come his way at his temporary employers, Oxford United.
Dane Scarlett struggling for playing time at Oxford
Owner of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, John Wenham, expresses his concern about Scarlett’s lack of playing time. The 20-year-old prodigy has featured only twice on the previous five outings and started only once since he moved across to the EFL Championship club on a season-long deal.
Wenham, speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, acknowledges that Oxford are stacked with multiple offensive players, which could limit opportunities coming Scarlett’s way.
Scarlett’s future in doubt
Wenham said:
“Scarlett’s lack of playing time is a massive concern. He has moved to a club where they already have quite a few forwards. Therefore, I am pretty concerned that Scarlett isn’t going to get many opportunities.
“This was the loan that had to go well. Of course, we don’t know what will happen throughout the season, but he needs to start playing soon.
“I am getting worried that he is the only loanee who isn’t really getting consistent minutes at the moment.”

Scarlett has been one of the youngsters who has been highly regarded at Hotspur Way after bursting onto the scene at a relatively young age. However, he hasn’t been able to compound on his development since making his debut in Tottenham colours.
He has already been on the end of multiple failing loan spells, and another one not going his way would be a big dampener in his development.

However, it is easy to forget that Scarlett is only 20 years old and still has a lot of time to grow into his potential.
