Manchester City target Jamal Musiala has turned down an offer of a new contract from Bayern Munich, according to The Mirror (via The Express).
The Bundesliga giants have reportedly failed to match the German international’s £300,000 a week wage demands, which has prompted more speculation about a potential move away from the Allianz Arena.
City are one of several clubs keeping close tabs on Musiala’s situation. Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal and even Manchester United are said to be hoping to prise him away from Bayern if he fails to agree an extension.
The 21-year-old’s contract expires in 2026 so he will only have a year remaining on his current deal at the end of this season.
Bayern are demanding a sizeable fee for Musiala
The Mirror claim that the midfielder is currently valued at around £120m by Bayern, which could potentially put off potential suitors.
However, if Musiala does not sign an extension over the coming months, his value will begin to drop due to the limited amount of time remaining on his contract
The City target has been described as a “phenomenal” player by one of his teammates
Speaking about his German international teammate back in June, former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was effusive in his praise of the player:
“This guy, he’s very good. His dribbling and everything, he takes risks in certain situations but it’s OK, that’s why we defenders are there. He’s phenomenal.”
Musiala demonstrated his qualities once again on Saturday evening when he scored Bayern’s opening goal after just 15 seconds during their 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel. It was the quickest goal in the German club’s history.
It remains to be seen where the midfielder will end up, but it would be a massive coup if City do manage to secure his signature next summer.
