Bayern Munich have not lost a UEFA Champions League group since 2017, but this isn’t the group stage any more. The newly christened “league phase” of the revamped UCL format pits the club against a larger number of teams from a variety of different nations, including some of the favorites to win the competition.
Despite it being his first season in the Champions League, Vincent Kompany will be under intense scrutiny. Dinamo Zagreb aren’t exactly one of Europe’s heavyweights, but they still qualified for the top level of European football. They can’t be taken for granted.
The goal will be to finish within the top 8. Kompany has a fine squad at his disposal, even with the injury crisis at right-back. You can’t really complain when you have the likes of Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, a seemingly rejuvenated Serge Gnabry, João Palhinha, Aleksandar Pavlović, Joshua Kimmich, and more.
It’s Bayern time.
