More Spurs Women news, just days before their first Women’s Super League match of the season! According to the club socials, central defender Amy James-Turner has agreed to a new two year contract with the club that will keep her in lilywhite through the 2025-26 season.

James-Turner has been a regular for Tottenham Women since joining the club from Orlando Pride in 2022-23. Her performances were somewhat erratic under Rehanne Skinner and it took her a few games to crack the starting lineup under Robert Vilahamn last season. But once she did, she stayed there, starting all but two of the 14 matches she played in central defense, and forming a good defensive partnership with Luana Bühler and Molly Bartrip. James-Turner can also play right back, though she hasn’t played there at all under Vilahamn.
I don’t hate this move, even as I think there are probably options out there that are better than James-Turner. She definitely improved her performances last season under Vilahamn, and it doesn’t feel like a stretch to suggest she could continue to up her game after another year with ol’ “Bob Goddamn.” At 33 years old, she’s not a youngster, but she’s an experienced WSL player who knows how to defend. If nothing else, she provides solid depth, and that’s something that shouldn’t be scoffed at. It’s a long season.
James-Turner is wife to former Tottenham and current Seattle Reign midfielder Angharad James-Turner. Until Angharad’s departure last season, they were the first married couple to play on the same team in the WSL.
