To say Michael Olise has hit the ground running at Bayern Munich would be an understatement. He’s smashed the ground and jet off at the speed of sound may be more appropriate, especially after his man of the match performance against Werder Bremen.
The 22-year-old has already picked up five goals and three assists in six competitive matches so far for Bayern this season. To put that into context, Olise is averaging 1,33 goal contributions per game. Scary form.
The former Crystal Palace man has not only done well to impress Bayern fans, but has certainly left an impression on head coach, Vincent Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia).
“He’s a special talent. It’s a luxury at Bayern to have so many good players. Michael did very well. His start at FC Bayern couldn’t be much better. He has to keep going this way. I haven’t got the feeling that he’s a player who feels much pressure. He just enjoys football,” said Kompany.
Olise’s start to the season feels reminiscent of Leroy Sané’s start to last season, at some points the German was even being labelled “the best player in the world”.
Now let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Last season, Leroy Sané just happened to be in a rich vein of form. The same may just be true for Olise. However, if he continues in this vein of form for the rest of the season, he will be well on his way to becoming, at the very least, one of the best players in the world.
The true litmus test for Michael Olise and Vincent Kompany will come next weekend as Bayern Munich take on defending Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen, at the Allianz Arena.
Form player or no form player, Bayern fans best enjoy Olise’s positive start to the season and believe there is much more to come.
