Bayern Munich’s 5-0 win over Werder Bremen had quite a few talking points, including Michael Olise’s one man show, the easiest paycheck in Sven Ulreich’s career, and so on. However, there was one eye-catching point that had been evident for over a month now – the absence of Bayern’s home kit.
Although lack of information causes this writer to base this on theory alone, this is likely to be the first ever time that Bayern have not worn their home kit once in the first four games of the Bundesliga season. What’s more, that number will soon change to five come next weekend, with the Bavarians set to suit up in their new one-off Oktoberfest kit against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Even in other competitions, the home kit is rather scarce. Bayern wore their third kit in the Champions League opener against GNK Dinamo, while the next two away games against Aston Villa and Barcelona are also highly likely not to feature the home kit. In fact, the only time that Bayern have suited up in red so far this season was against Ulm in the DFB-Pokal. Bayern have not worn the home kit in the entire month of September.
In the meantime, the black and bronze away kit has been prominently featured, while the beige third kit has also been worn twice already. It remains to be seen whether Bayern will wear the third kit, which by designation is the “Champions League kit,” in their other Champions League home matches.
Judging from the current schedule, it seems as Bayern will not wear the home kit until their away trip to Eintracht Frankfurt in two weeks. However, considering Frankfurt’s home kit is a combination of all of Bayern’s current kit colors – white, black, and red – this is also a question mark. At the latest, Bayern will most likely wear the home kit in their home match against VfB Stuttgart in the following week.
