Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich went through what was essentially a really bizarre chief scout swap back in 2022, as Bayern’s chief scout Laurent Busser left Dortmund in June of 2022, only for Dortmund’s chief scout Markus Pilawa to leave for Bayern a month later. But it seems that the latter’s time in Munich is up, as first reported by Philipp Kessler and captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Bayern will part ways with chief scout Markus Pilawa who joined the club from Borussia Dortmund two years ago.
X account @iMiaSanMia also captured Bild’s explanation for why Bayern are letting the former VFL Bochum scout go:
Pilawa was hired by Hasan Salihamidžić and Marco Neppe. [Bayern’s board member for sport] Max Eberl now wants to fill the position according to his own ideas – ideally with one of his confidants.
BFW Analysis
It is always so difficult to analyze the work of scouts like this, since their work is done in the background and attributed to the most prominent members of Bayern’s transfer committee. How can someone from the outside evaluate how well the scouts are performing their duties when we are privy to absolutely none of it? For now, Bayern fans will have to hope that the new chief scout hired will be able to mesh better with Eberl and Co.
