Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has accused Erling Haaland of being “the most arrogant player in the Premier League” following several incidents during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against the Gunners on Sunday.
Morgan posted on X to directly react to Haaland’s remarks to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta at full-time. The striker can be heard saying “Stay humble” to the Spaniard, which led Morgan to reply:
“Humility lectures from the most arrogant player in the league, who belittled 17-year-old Lewis-Skelly, and cowardly hurled a ball at the back of Gabriel’s head. Pipe down Erling Haaland you nasty piece of work.”
Haaland scored the opening goal at the weekend, which was his 100th goal for City in just 105 appearances.
The City striker was clearly fired up
In addition to the confrontations with Arteta, Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly, Haaland also knocked Thomas Partey to the ground and threw himself into a challenge with William Saliba during the game.
The Norwegian was undoubtedly more motivated than usual but Morgan believes that he crossed the line with his antics.
Who will have the last laugh in the title race?
Before this season, there wasn’t that much needle between the two title rivals. Arteta and Pep Guardiola both have a great deal of respect for one another, having worked closely during their time together at City.
However, the match on Sunday was pretty fractious, not necessarily between the two managers, but mostly the players. When the return fixture is played at the Emirates in February, you can guarantee that it will be an intense affair, especially if they are still battling it out at the top of the table. As long as Haaland is fit for that game, you can safely bet on him having a big influence on proceedings.
