Enzo Maresca has praised Moises Caicedo for his start to the season but admitted there’s one area he can do much better in.
Caicedo appears to have found his feet following his British record transfer from Brighton last summer and has had a brilliant start to the season.
The midfielder put in arguably the best performance of his Chelsea career to date in the 3-0 victory against West Ham last weekend.
Maresca highlights where Caicedo needs to improve
Caicedo is going to have a key role to play if Chelsea are going to get back into the Champions League this season and against the Hammers he was everywhere.
The Ecuador international was covering ground, breaking up play, putting in tackles and even grabbed the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s second goal.
Chelsea will hope that form continues against his former side Brighton on Saturday afternoon. as they go in search of a first league win of the season at Stamford Bridge.
Caicedo’s quality is well known and it appears he’s starting to get the recognition his performances deserve from outside the Chelsea fan base.
However, despite being pleased with Caicedo’s start to the season, Maresca has highlighted an area he believes the 22-year-old can improve.
“He’s doing well, especially off the ball. But he can do much, much, much better on the ball, be more brave, breaking lines.” he told reporters as cited on X.com.
It looks like on the early evidence of this season the Blues are getting closer to getting the Brighton version of Caicedo which is huge positive for the team.
Having been given the night off against Barrow in the Carabao Cup in midweek Caicedo will be restored to the starting line-up against his former side, with the Blues also boosted by the return of Romeo Lavia, and there’s a chance we could see the pair on the pitch together on Saturday afternoon.
