Bayern Munich dropped points for the first time this season with a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern’s only goal came in the 39th minute when Aleksandar Pavlović delivered an incredible volley to level the score.
The match wasn’t the high flying affair that most fans wanted, primarily due to Leverkusen’s tactics. Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso elected to park the bus, conceding 69% possession and a 15-shot differential.
When asked about Leverkusen’s defensive strategy (via @iMiaSanMia) Kompany responded, “No. Because we know that Leverkusen’s strength is that they can do both. They can press and put pressure when they want and can also defend well when they need to. We did many things right. Maybe on another day we’d be more successful in front of goal. But my team played well.”
Kompany showed more tact and composure than most (see, Jürgen Klopp). It certainly helps that Bayern will enter October alone at the top of the table.
