Bayern Munich has started the Vincent Kompany era with consistent and improved play across the board. Kompany has tinkered with a few different positions, however he has primarily relied on Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae as the center back pairing.
Eric Dier has been received the short end of the stick but has been the ultimate professional in support of his younger teammates. Upamecano and Kim have already earned the trust of the new manager, a former center back himself.
Following the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, Kim spoke with Az journalist Kilian Kreit (via @iMiaSanMia). Kim said, “[Kompany] explains to the players what he wants in much more detail. Because the whole team is playing well, I can play well, too.”
Kim’s praise of Kompany’s excellent communication skills has a been a recurring theme in interviews. In his first season with Bayern, Kim had a very up-and-down 2023/24 campaign under Thomas Tuchel. Kim is still adjusting to life in the Bundesliga, but he looks more confident and certain of his responsibilities.
