Germany recently saw some of its biggest stars retire from the game, particularly Toni Kroos and İlkay Gündoğan. The two midfield giants left extremely large shoes to fill in their wake, and it’s up to the younger generation to fill them in.
Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović is one of those youngsters, and his prowess in the midfield has been put on display multiple times. However, the question that arises is whether or not Pavlović will indeed replace the two giants. In a recent interview, he was asked where he saw himself in the newly opened up vacancies on the squad.
“In the end, the coach will always make the decisions. I will work hard on myself every day; we will see what happens,” said Pavlović in response (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The mentality is there, but the optimism? Perhaps it was simply a vague answer to avoid controversy surrounding Julian Nagelsmann’s squad choices. Either way, Pavlović has proven on more than one occasion that he is capable of taking that spot on the field, and experimenting with the new opportunities that arise with the retirements.
