In 2023, Paris Saint-Germain sought a manager after parting ways with Christophe Galtier. The capital club eventually went with Luis Enrique, but they also had another Spanish manager in mind.
The Parisians signed Enrique to a two-year contract, and after a first season filled with domestic trophies, PSG reportedly prepared Enrique for a contract extension. The Spanish manager has impressed during his time in the capital, and the club would like to make him a crucial part of their long-term project.
As it currently stands, Luis Enrique is entering the final year of his contract, which will expire in 2025. Nonetheless, PSG was close to not hiring Enrique as they had their eyes on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
The Independent’s Miguel Delaney reports that PSG approached Mikel Arteta in 2023 as they sought to appoint a new manager. Despite the approach, no move occurred despite Arteta’s ties to the Parisians.
