Paris Saint-Germain lost 2-0 to Arsenal on Tuesday night at Emirates Stadium. The Parisian side struggled after conceding two goals in the first half and Gianluigi Donnarumma was at the center with errors.
Donnarumma made two mistakes that resulted in goals for the home side. The first goal occurred after the Italian goalkeeper came off his line to catch a cross that didn’t look too threatening.
Unfortunately, this decision backfired as his gamble to go for the ball didn’t pay off, allowing Kai Havertz to get a header in and score. On the second goal, he whiffed on the free-kick shot from Bukayo Saka.
The excuse can be that Arsenal put enough bodies near Donnarumma to generate traffic that didn’t allow him to see the ball. However, the 24-year-old attempted to swat the ball, but he completely missed as it went in the back of the net.
Following the loss, manager Luis Enrique defended the player and took the blame for how the contest played out.
“Honestly, I’m not here to point fingers for the loss,” Enrique told reporters (h/t Canal Supporters). “If anyone’s to blame, it’s me. The other team was better with their pressing and won more duels. They played it safe after the break, but we deserved the loss.”
