Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is no stranger to giving Bayern Munich headaches and he did so once again in the Champions League, as he watched his team execute his game plan perfectly for a 1-0 victory.
Needless to say, the manager was ecstatic.
”I’m very happy, very proud. We want to play at this level — and continue to play consistently against teams like Bayern Munich. Of course we want to enjoy the Champions League like we do and play like we do. And we were very focused on the game. They challenged us for 90 minutes. We made some changes in defence. We tried to keep the ball, but they put us under pressure. It wasn’t easy. We didn’t have much, but then we fought and won,” Emery said (as captured by FCBayern.com).
Some will say that Emery provided the blueprint on how to slow down that dangerous Bayern Munich attack, but Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso probably beat him to the punch last week during the 1-1 draw between Bayern Munich and Die Werkself.
Regardless, other teams will study the tactics used, but it will be up to them to implement the strategies just as successfully as Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa.
