Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is solely focused on walking into Eintracht Frankfurt’s stadium and leaving with three points on Sunday.
“Playing in Frankfurt is always special. Their team is strong on the counter, with many young players and a lot of talent. The club and the team can still grow. But for us it’s also a normal game. We want to get our points and carry on in the Bundesliga,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I’m only thinking about the next game, which is Frankfurt. After every game, whether you win or lose, the next game is the only thing that counts. We can take a lot with us into the next game. That has to be the basis for success in the next game.”
The Bavarians are a little banged up and added Jamal Musiala’s name to list of walking wounded this week. Will that mean more playing time for Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller?
“It’s a real pity that Jamal isn’t available. We all know how good he is.But at the end of the day he’s a young player and we decided it was better for him to get rest and come back at 100%. Our priority is that he stays fit. We have 100% confidence in all our players, Leroy is one of them,” said Kompany. “Let’s wait until tomorrow. We have said many times how important Thomas is for this club. He’s very special. He showed that again with his goal against Freiburg. I always make decisions to win the game. It’s never a decision against a certain player, but a decision for another player. There’s always a story about a player who does not play.”
Finally, Kompany was asked if his style of play was too “risky”, but the boss said he did not want to be defined by any one particular philosophy.
“Play style is not a word I use often. The way we play is pragmatic for me – it’s not about style. When you lose, you have to get up and win the next game. That’s our goal for tomorrow. I don’t forget what we achieved in those games,” Kompany said.
