Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has mastered the art of communicating the positives when everyone else can see the team’s issues after a match.
It is the polar opposite approach of his predecessor, Thomas Tuchel, who sometimes used the media as a weapon to shovel blame on to his players.
“A fantastic performance from my team. Bayern lost here 5-1 last year, lost 5-1 another year. I think the expectation was big for the opposition team to be able to do something. But there wasn’t any of it today,” Kompany told ESPN (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Of course, we conceded three goals and that’s the story of the game. But if you look at the dominance we had in every game this season, we have four or five times the amount of chances of any team we face.”
Statistically, Bayern Munich was “fantastic”, but for the third consecutive game, the end result did not yield three points. At some point, the Bavarians will have to put it all together against quality competition.
Has Vincent Kompany been exposed? Why has Harry Kane stopped scoring? Does Manuel Neuer need a replacement? If you’re asking those questions, we discuss all that and more in the newest edition of our podcast! Listen to it below or on Spotify.
