As frustrating the 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt was for Bayern Munich, the more elating it was for Frankfurt. This was hardly a match for some of the club’s famous victories against the Bavarians in recent history, but there is nothing as thrilling as scoring a list minute goal to change a match. But, simultaneously, requiring such a late equalizer suggests that not all was well. Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller elaborated on these concerns, as captured by Bayern’s official website.
”The end of the game was wild. Obviously, Bayern pushed us back right from the start. We wanted to be a little more active but then we defended in a deep block. Bayern’s set pieces were very dangerous. Obviously, it’s really frustrating to concede goals that way. In one or two situations we were lucky not to concede even more. There were also a lot of crosses coming in from the wings and on the bench we always had the feeling that could evolve into something dangerous, but it never really did,” Toppmöller said.
Frankfurt’s star duo Hugo Etikité and Omar Marmoush, on the other hand, were delighted with the performance. Considering their own brilliant individual performances, that will hardly be a surprise. But Etikité preferred to focus on the collective rather than his own performance.
“We did a great job today. We fought as a team. It was a very difficult game for us, we had to defend a lot. This feels like a win. I’m happy for the team, we worked hard for this result,” Ekitike remarked.
Marmoush has a similar mindset to Etikité, preferring to exclusively use the word we.
“We did very well today. We played well as a team. I believe we showed a good performance. We stuck together as a team, defensively and offensively, and we were clinical in front of goal. We didn’t create many chances but we put away the few we had. We’re happy,” Marmoush stated.
