Man United legend, Ruud van Nistelrooy, is viewed as a possible caretaker option if Erik ten Hag is sacked.
Manchester United Football Club could be on the hunt for a new manager in the not-too-distant future. The Old Trafford side are watching an Erik ten Hag come under increasing pressure after a poor run of results.
Now, names are being floated around the media in regard to who could follow on from the Dutchman.
I guess it was only a matter of time before Ruud van Nistelrooy was linked with the role. It’s The Guardian with the claim, who state that the 48-year-old is viewed as a ‘potential caretaker option’ for the Red Devils job if Ten Hag is sacked.
The former PSV Eindhoven manager has a limited spell in the dugout, though he did deliver a league title over in the Netherlands – much like Ten Hag.
Ruud is an absolute icon. There can be no doubt that when he was appointed as coach, the club had this exact scenario in mind. It could have been an incredibly shrewd appointment as it’s looking more and more likely that United will have to bring in a new coach.
Make no mistake about it, Van Nistelrooy will look to restore the belief and morale back into that dressing room, while playing attractive football.
Without wanting to look too far into the future, Van Nistelrooy will also be given plenty of time to try and earn the role on a permanent basis – much like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed a few years ago when Jose Mourinho was let go.
Honestly, I can see this happening before the end of the campaign, as United look to find a quick fix before trying to make a longer-term appointment.
