Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich is one of a number of the club’s stars with a soon-to-expire contract.
As a leader for club and country, though, Kimmich is surely going to be one of the Bavarians’ top priorities to keep rather than depart on a free transfer next June. Board member for sport Max Eberl already named him as future Bayern captain material — and club president Herbert Hainer is in full agreement.
“Why not? He’s already captain of the national team and the role suits him very well,” Hainer said in an Az interview published at the end of September (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We will of course try [to keep Kimmich at Bayern]. Jo knows exactly how much we appreciate him, what we have in him, and we’re telling him that again and again. I think he feels very, very comfortable at Bayern. He plays brilliantly, always makes progress, and in that respect I wish him nothing else than to end his career at FC Bayern one day.”
Could Kimmich follow in the footsteps of long-tenured Bayern greats Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller? Why not? He has already followed them into the captaincy ranks.
Whatever the case, the club at least seems to be doing its part to make sure Kimmich continues to feel welcome.
