Man United have eyes on Ben Chilwell, ahead of the January transfer opening in just a few months.
Manchester United Football Club filled many holes within the squad over the summer, with Erik ten Hag heavily backed by INEOS.
However, one glaring issue in the squad remains; left-back.
Luke Shaw will always pick up small injuries. It’s just been a permanent factor during his Red Devils career. Who knows what Tyrell Malacia will look like after an eighteen month layoff?
As a result, the club must look to bring in another left-back of some description sooner rather than later.
TEAMtalk believe one player the club are still looking at is Ben Chilwell. According to their information, United have made the 27-year-old Chelsea defender a ‘top target’ for the January transfer window.
Chilwell has been frozen out at Stamford Bridge by Enzo Maresca, with United seemingly looking to take advantage of that. The Old Trafford club were linked with the Englishman over the summer, though no move came to fruition.
TEAMtalk state that even if Erik ten Hag loses his job, United will still push to sign Chilwell, hinting that this is a move that is coming directly from INEOS rather than the manager.
United are not alone in their keenness in Chilwell, though the 20-time Premier League champions are said to be showing ‘concrete interest’ in adding the former Leicester City man.
I like Chilwell as a player. He’s been a sturdy defender for Chelsea over the years, though there’s no getting away from the fact that he too has his own injury problems. I don’t see any logic in bringing in another player who could spend months on end in the treatment room and it’s largely why Chelsea could be looking to get rid.
