Manchester City are “strongly considering” Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim as a potential successor for Pep Guardiola, according to The Guardian.
The Premier League champions are having to put contingency plans in place in case Guardiola does decide to leave when his contract expires next summer. The 53-year-old has yet to give the club a final decision but there are expected to be developments over the coming weeks.
There has been a mixed reaction from fans on X to reports that Amorim is a leading contender. Some believe he possesses the ability to take on the task of replacing Guardiola, while others prefer other candidates:
Things we love to hear.

Xabi Alonso is right there, we do not want Ruben Amorim anywhere near city.

What are Amorim’s credentials?
The 39-year-old has won six major trophies in total. His first silverware came during his spell at Braga where he won the Portuguese League Cup.
Soon afterwards, Amorim made the switch to Sporting. In his first full season in charge, he lifted the Liga Portugal title and League Cup. He won the Super Cup and the League Cup for the third time in the following campaign.
Amorim won the league title for the second time in four years back in May, and they are currently sitting top of the table once again, having won all 8 of their matches so far this season.
He has been linked to some of City’s Premier League rivals
Amorim was interviewed for the West Ham job last summer, and he also came under consideration for the Chelsea and Liverpool vacancies.
While he hasn’t been tempted to leave Sporting up until now, the presence of Hugo Viana at City, who was his sporting director in Portugal, could aid the Premier League champions’ chances.
