Rumors linking Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich with a transfer away from the German record champions seem to have all but dissipated.
Now all the talk is of a very long stay with the Bavarians — perhaps matching that of Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, alongside whom Kimmich serves as one of the team’s captains.
“Joshua Kimmich is an outstanding character that gives everything in every game,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen at the start of the season, in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia. “Sometimes even with too much ambition. [Bayern coach] Vincent Kompany made it clear early on that he’s relying on him. I think Joshua feels comfortable in Munich. Everything else will emerge from the talks with [sporting bosses] Max Eberl and Christoph Freund.”
Indeed, Kimmich is so intense he sometimes needs to be reigned in. For the Bavarians that is exactly the kind of player they would like to lock down.
