In a long interview with kicker, former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was asked about the upcoming clash against FC Barcelona, specifically a comparison between Harry Kane and their current striker — Robert Lewandowski. Rummenigge, himself a Ballon d’Or winning striker, was effusive in his praise for both players.
“There are a few transfers that were essential for the club,” began KHR. “One of them was the transfer of Robert Lewandowski. He’s a goal machine and a really good guy. I’ve never seen a more honest player than him. I could talk to him about anything. He always gave me an honest answer — and not one that was pre-fabricated or to his advantage. You have to understand that this is not quite usual, because my job was to promote the good of the club and not just his good.”
“Ultimately, Robert was an incredibly important advisor to me. You can discuss football with him at an immensely high level, and he is also extremely clever.”
On a comparison between Lewy and Kane, he said, “I hope that Harry wins trophies this year. Otherwise it will soon get on his nerves [laughs].”
“He’s a great guy who fits in well with Bayern Munich and people love him,” continued Rummenigge. “He plays well, he scores goals, he looks great on FC Bayern and we are happy that he’s playing here. And what if he didn’t score? I once went ten games without scoring a goal and everyone shook their heads in amazement. That can happen. Then came a game where I scored three goals against Nürnberg — in the end we became champions and I won the top scorer award.”
