Bayern Munich was back to winning ways after the international window, scoring four unanswered goals in an emphatic win over VfB Stuttgart, retaining its spot at the top of the table.
After a disappointing first period in terms of attacking output, Bayern came to life in the second half, with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick. While Kane may have started the game, Vincent Kompany’s substitutes did a good job of imposing themselves on the game as well, with Kingsley Coman going so far as to score a goal of his own, adding to the team’s tally on the night.
In a post-match press conference, Kompany was captured (via @iMiaSanMia) speaking about his bench’s impact, saying, “We’re very fortunate with the amount of players we could bring off the bench to raise the quality of the game. In a moment where some players were getting a little bit tired, the bench made a big push for us in the last 30 minutes.
Moreover, Kompany explained that he preached patience at halftime. When asked what that speech entailed, Kompany offered this: “To stay patient and not concede counters. I felt we could’ve used our chances better, especially in the first half. Stuttgart is a very good team. We stayed patient and in the end deservedly won the game. I’m happy for the boys. Now we keep going and look to the next game against Barcelona.”
With added matches in the schedule due to the new Champions League format and Bayern wanting to compete at a high level in every competition, the depth of the squad could prove an important asset this season.
