Chelsea have now added a new Portuguese international to their transfer shortlist for one of the upcoming transfer windows, we can exclusively reveal.
Our own writer Simon Phillips had the info out on his transfer news updates article yesterday on Chelsea chasing new centre backs on his personal Substack site, with a Manchester City defender also now on the radar.
According to Phillips, Chelsea now have Benfica centre back Antonio Silva on their transfer shortlist as a new defender becomes priority for the club.
Silva stands at 6ft 2in tall and has become a regular and important player for his club, and also now for his country, gaining 20 appearances at senior international level for Portugal at the age of 20.
Phillips says Silva and Araujo are liked by Chelsea
The Chelsea writer says:
‘The other two names mentioned by SPTC sources this week are Tomas Araujo of Benfica, who I reported earlier this week, and his club team mate Antonio Silva. Chelsea now have both centre backs on their new shortlist.
‘Araujo can also operate as a right back, which is something Chelsea are seeking more cover in. Silva is 20-years-old and is a rising star who is also attracting interest from many top clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool.
‘Chelsea want a more dominant centre back to lead the line at the back and challenge others. The futures of Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi are in huge doubt, and the club would have listened to offers for them in the summer just gone and will look to sell moving forward.’
So there you have it, it looks like the club now want to bring in a dominant new centre back to help complete the final parts of this squad rebuild that we have been witnessing over the last couple of seasons under the new ownership.
