Tottenham have transformed their okay start into a strong run of form, showing impressive resilience. Following the defeat over Brighton, Spurs went on to thrash West Ham 4-0, securing their spot as eighth place in the Premier League.
Their Europa League campaign is also off to a promising start, remaining undefeated with three consecutive wins, including Thursday night’s hard-fought triumph over AZ and remaining on the second position. Although not at their peak, Tottenham clinched the win through Richarlison’s decisive 53rd-minute penalty, showcasing a knack for getting results even when not at their best.
The Brazilian earning £90,000 per week, in his first start of the season, had a brief dispute with James Maddison over taking the penalty. Maddison, captaining Spurs for the match, eventually handed the spot-kick duties to his teammate. The decision paid off, as Richarlison calmly struck the ball down the center, securing Tottenham’s victory.
Ahead of Sunday’s match against Crystal Palace, Ange Postecoglou shared his thoughts on Richarlison’s impactful debut start of the campaign.
Postecoglu’s thoughts regarding Richalison
Postecoglou previously spoke about how Spurs have sought to get Richarlison as fit as possible prior to his return to action.
Ange highlighted this, noting that Richarlison looked “strong, lean, and full of energy,” and expressed confidence that he would become “really important” for the Lilywhites.
“He looked good (Thursday) night, he looked strong, lean and had plenty of energy and he’s going to be a really important player for us for sure.
“Like I said, we took a bit of a different approach with him and hopefully with the objective of breaking that cycle when he comes back for a bit and breaks down.
“Credit to him he’s come back, worked hard, feeling really good about things and great for him to get a goal (Thursday) night.”
