When Jamal Musiala glided past defenders towards the near post on a Bayern Munich free kick near the half-hour mark at VfL Bochum, a headed goal was probably the last thing he — or anyone — was expecting.
But Musiala met teammate Joshua Kimmich’s gentle free kick delivery with an equally deft touch, guiding it across keeper Patrick Drewes and into the opposite corner of the net.
Musiala has scored with his head before — but that did not stop his teammates from crowding him like it was a celestial event, or his coaches and staff heaping praise.
“Of course it’s nice for him because he’s not used [to scoring headers],” said head coach Vincent Kompany after the game (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I think he was good not only because of his goal. He helped us calm the game down. When the opponent presses, it’s always easier with Jamal to get out of the press. It was a complete performance from him.”
“He’s not so small. I’m surprised he hasn’t scored more [headers] so far. But of course it’s still surprising because we usually know him with the ball at his feet,” added sporting boss Max Eberl (captured by Bild reporter Michel Schröer, via @iMiaSanMia).
Atta way, Jamal!
