Mainz 05 boss Bo Henriksen understands the challenge that Bayern Munich presents, but is not going to cower at the prospect of facing the Bavarians in the DFB-Pokal.
“I’m never afraid. Football is and should be fun. Maybe it’s not too fun to play against Bayern because the last time we lost 8-1. We know that Bayern is a great team, we saw that in their last game against Bochum. They have a lot of quality, but this is football. 11 against 11, we’re playing at home – anything can happen. We have a chance and we must try. I have a good feeling that we’ll give everything tomorrow and can win. We want not only to defend. If we have a chance, we’ll go forward. If we’re 1-0 up, we’ll try to score a second,” said Henricksen (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
When asked if his team could take advantage of Bayern Munich’s susceptibility to quick transitions and counterattacks, Henriksen indicated that Mainz will seek to capitalize of its quickness up-top.
“Of course, we have to have pace in the last third, that’s important for us. We know that and we also saw it against Bochum. Bochum had a 1v1 situation after seven minutes. That’s important of course. We know we have to play in transition but we also want to play football. Nevertheless, we know it’s extremely important against Bayern to have quick players upfront,” Henricksen stated.
