During the summer, RB Leipzig managed to convince Xavi Simons to spend a second season at the Red Bull Arena on loan.
The Bundesliga club are now hopeful of securing the Dutchman’s signature on a permanent deal, although Paris Saint-Germain’s valuation of around €80 million remains a problem.
Sport Bild now suggests that Jürgen Klopp, who is set to become Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, could be an important factor in Leipzig’s bid to keep Simons.
Klopp is believed to be an admirer of the 21-year-old, and it’s no coincidence that he was a target for Liverpool when the German coach was at the club.
For now, Simons is recovering from an ankle injury that will keep him out for the rest of the year.
