In the first half of Bayern Munich’s 4-0 DFB-POkal win over Mainz 05 star striker Harry Kane barrelled down hard on Die Nullfünfer goalkeeper Robin Zentner, who was aggressively coming out to make a play on the ball.
As happens sometimes in football, there was contact.
Kane did the best he could to avoid it, but his cleat did clip Zentner’s head and the goalkeeper needed a bandage over his eye.
After the match, Zentner was not about to absolve Kane of any blame.
“Yes, I think you can blame him. I think he saw relatively early that he couldn’t get to the ball, so he could have just stayed away,” said Zentner (via @iMiaSanMia).
In fairness to Kane, it was an aggressive play by two equally aggressive players. It could be argued, though, that — intentional or not — Kane’s cleat caused enough of an issue and was reckless enough to earn more than just a warning.
Luckily for Bayern Munich, though, no cards were given and Kane went on to play a very solid first half.
