The quality of Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has come under question in recent months after growing concerns over his ability to maintain top class performances at the age of 39.
Subsequently, The Bavarians may be investing more time into finding a long-term successor for the sweeper-keeper.
According to Sky reporter, Florian Plettenberg, Bayern’s bitter rivals, Borussia Dortmund, may just have a solution who is looking to make the next step in his career (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Gregor #Kobel is disappointed and frustrated with the development at Borussia Dortmund. Kobel is eager to play for a team that can regularly compete for titles. A transfer is no longer out of the question, despite his contract running until 2028, especially since progress at #BVB has stagnated and top clubs from England are showing interest in him.
Manuel Neuer’s goalkeeping ability is still widely up for debate, but it would be difficult to deny that Bayern will inevitably need a long-term solution to one of the club’s greatest keepers of all time.
At 26 years of age and over five years of Bundesliga experience, Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel presents an interesting solution for Die Roten.
Manuel Neuer was also 26 years old when he joined Bayern Munich, so Kobel certainly ticks the box for long-term solution. However, with a contract running through to 2028 and a host of Premier League clubs circling, it may prove difficult to secure the Swiss goalkeeper’s signature.
Nonetheless, it wouldn’t be the first time Bayern dipped into North Rhine-Westphalia to snatch a player from their rivals. Perhaps Kobel could be next in line to join the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels and Mario Götze in trading yellow for red.
What do you think? Is Kobel a good long-term solution for Manuel Neuer? If not, who would be better suited to replace Neuer?
