Lee Hyun-ju is moving up in the world of football. Brought to Bayern Munich from K League 1 team Pohang Steelers in 2022, it only took him 18 months to graduate from the U-23s in the Regionalliga Bayern to his first loan spell in the 2. Bundesliga with Wehen Wiesbaden. Lee was unable to help Wiesbaden avoid relegation, but his performances were impressive enough for Hannover 96 to bring him in, where he is now a regular starter for a team that is challenging for promotion to the Bundesliga and, at the time of writing, currently top of the 2. Bundesliga.
All this did not escape the attention of the South Korean national team, who announced their senior squad for the November international break via their official twitter account. For the first time, Lee was included in the squad. He joins former Bayern youth player Jeong Wooyeong and current Bayern regular Kim Min-jae in the South Korea squad, forming a sizable contingent of current and ex-Bayern players. Who would have expected this kind of Bavarian development within the South Korean national team even just 5 years ago?
All of this is richly deserved, though. If his impressive rise over the past few seasons is not enough to convince, his silky skills on the ball and superb technical ability should be enough to confirm his quality to anyone who watches him. Hopefully, Lee can even confirm his quality with his debut during the international break.
