Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a splendid outing at White Hart Lane yesterday, which saw the Lilywhites get better of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa as the North Londoners come back to winning ways after the horrendous performance at Selhurst Park Stadium last weekend.
Spurs were dealt the first blow when the visitors scored the first goal of the game from a well-taken corner, which saw Morgan Rogers tap into Vicario’s net.
Tottenham were taken aback and stunned as Ange Postecoglou stared at another Premier League defeat. However, it was an inspired performance, which saw the hosts score four goals to take all three points.
The talking point of the game came in the middle of second half when the Australian head coach decided to sub-off skipper Heung Min Son when the scores were still tied. And former Lilywhites scout Bryan King expects the former Celtic manager to have a word with the South Korean owing to his shocked reaction to being taken off.
King defends Postecoglou’s Son decision
King in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, expressed his shock at “strange” Son’s reaction and insists that the change was for player’s own good. He said:
“I think it was more of a precautionary switch rather than one related to performance.
“He hasn’t played much recently, he was coming into a high-intensity game. Therefore, it sounds like he was brought off for his own good.
“It was strange to see him so irate, what would’ve brought that on? I would’ve thought before the game had started that Postecoglou and Son would’ve established that he might only play an hour as part of his return from injury.
“Therefore, it was an unnecessary reaction from Son. I’d imagine that his reaction will be discussed by the manager because it’s not the kind of thing you want to see from your captain.”
Son has been struggling with injuries off late and the decision to take him off was more about minutes management to ensure that the 32-year-old can stay fit and available to represent the Lilywhites going into the winter fixtures. Hopefully, these minute managements compound positively for Tottenham and the South Korean stays available for majority of the season.
