One could see the moment that Alphonso Davies switched from interview mode to a more conversational attitude. He answered questions on Bayern Munich’s performance in a 1-0 victory over St Pauli in the Bundesliga in a typically intelligent fashion, but when interviewer Archie Rhind-Tutt switched to asking asking about Jamal Musiala, Davies ducked his head, unsuccessfully trying to hide the delighted chuckle that escaped him.
But he would carry over that delighted and overjoyed attitude at the younger player’s performance to his response to Musiala’s performance, sporting an enormous grin as he lavished praise on the youngster: “What a strike. He’s a special guy, a special talent,” Davies happily confirmed, via @iMiaSanMia. “Normally he is in the box, and I guess he told himself today ‘I’mma have to shoot from outside the box’ and what a strike that was. Wow.”
The “Phonziala” friendship is very well known and it is this connection that the interviewer strived for Davies to use as he addresses the former Chelsea FC youngster’s incredible recent form. Davies was all too happy to respond: “As a friend, I just want to tell him to keep going. I mean, just playing your game, keep enjoying, keep doing what you’re doing. Just have fun with that. I hope he keeps [playing as great as he is right now] over and over every game, that’s for sure.”
That final sentiment is one every Bayern and Musiala fan would agree with at this moment in time. As Musiala’s #1 fan #2 fan behind this author, Davies will be there at his side to help him do exactly that.
