Bayern Munich had a sneaky plan last summer: Hijack Chelsea’s move for Brazilian talent Estêvão Willian. The Bavarians made a last-ditch effort to snatch the 17-year-old, trying to seal the deal in just 24 hours.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano (captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern considered making a serious play for Estêvão before setting their sights on Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, hoping to secure the youngster for a 2025 arrival. They were even willing to pay a higher fixed fee to sway the deal in their favor. However, despite their best efforts, it was a case of too little, too late.
Estêvão had already advanced his talks with Chelsea, and his heart seemed set on a move to Stamford Bridge. Even Bayern’s late bid couldn’t break up the love affair between the Brazilian prospect and the Blues.
It’s a rare sight to see Bayern get outmaneuvered in the transfer market, but Chelsea managed to keep their gem safe from the Bavarian giants. Not that this made too much of a difference, of course, as Michael Olise has been on fire at Bayern Munich, being a pivotal part of the developing squad.
