Serge Gnabry is now entering his seventh season as a player of Bayern Munich after arriving from Werder Bremen, displaying the kind of staying power at FC Hollywood that few could dream of. While his future was once in doubt during the summer, he managed to convince head coach Vincent Kompany to retain him and make him a key player of the squad. How has he done this on such a consistent basis? Asked if he needs to consistently reinvent himself or stay true to himself in order to stay at the top level at Bayern, Serge Gnabry explains his methods.
“I think it takes a bit of both. Everyone has to find their own mix, everyone is different. There are players who need continuity, who prefer to stay true to their processes. That’s also a good thing in many cases, because you don’t have to think about how to approach something,” Gnabry muses, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “You have your rhythm; you have confidence in your own processes. But for me, it’s sometimes better to try something new. I have a foundation of things that have always worked, but I’m also open to innovation.”
But the answer was not personal enough. What is key to Gnabry’s ability to maintain his spot at the top of the sport?
“For example, there are many exciting things that can contribute to regeneration and improving physical condition. I’m very interested in all of that. But you have to look at what really helps you. I now have a kind of toolbox from which I pull out the things I need every day,” Gnabry revealed via @iMiaSanMia. “Sometimes an ice bath, sometimes an infrared chamber, sometimes yoga, sometimes stretching. What I also find very important is to engage with the game itself. Talking a lot with others about the game and the opponent. You always get new perspectives.”
