Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard was carrying a groin injury before his recent injury substitution on international duty, according to a report.
Arsenal international Leandro Trossard came off early in Belgium’s final game of the November break at the weekend, having suffered an injury in the first half of the match.
Chris Wheatley reports for Shots TV that Trossard has been carrying a minor groin injury, though it’s unclear whether this latest setback is related.
Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Arsenal are hopeful Trossard hasn’t suffered a serious injury, and that the problem is just severe bruising. But it remains to be seen whether he can be fit to feature against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Whatever the problem is, Trossard will now face a race against time to get fit before the Forest match on Saturday.
One small upside of the timing of the injury is that Belgium played their second game so early in the break. The match was last Sunday, giving the player almost a week to rest and recover.
Fortunately, Arsenal didn’t appear to pick up any injury issues in the games on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, though loanee Nuno Tavares did have to withdraw from Portugal’s squad after a training injury.
Arsenal fans are understandably nervy when it comes to injuries on international duty.
Martin Odegaard got his foot caught in a challenge with Norway in September and missed two months, Bukayo Saka pulled a muscle with England in October and seemingly still hasn’t returned to 100% fitness, and Riccardo Calafiori missed the north London derby after an injury with Italy.
Whilst Trossard’s injury might not initially look like a major cause for concern, it’s certainly a worry that he immediately felt he had to come off. Mikel Arteta should provide an update in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s game.
