Bayern Munich’s roster is testing its upper limits, especially in the areas of age and wages. Upon his hiring this year, Club director of sport Max Eberl has maintained that Bayern need to reduce the wage bill in order to remain competitive.
Eberl and the rest of the management team have been scouring the European landscape for bargain purchases. The flavor of this week has been Lille attacker Jonathan David (via SkySport).
In a podcast with RMC Sport, Lille boss Olivier Létang has now confirmed our exclusive news that FC Bayern are interested in Jonathan David and are one of many clubs in Europe keeping tabs on the 24 y/o striker. No transfer in winter. This means he could move for free in the summer of 2025.
David’s signing bonus will likely be more than the €9M he’s earned thus far in his career. He’s scored double digit goals in all seven seasons with Gent and Lille. He’s currently on a three-game scoring streak in the Champions League, earning goals against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus.
David plays internationally for Canada alongside Alphonso Davies. This could be a clever attempt by Bayern to lure in a friendly face to convince Davies to sign an extension.
