It was inevitable that Bayern Munich’s phenomenal run without a goal would eventually come to an end. When Jamie Gittens fired the ball into the net and Borussia Dortmund, it was up to Bayern to adapt to a situation they had not had to deal with for nearly two months: Trailing the opponent. After the match, Dayot Upamecano spoke briefly (very briefly, in fact) about the difficult game state and the team’s reaction:
Dayot Upamecano: “We had to score a goal and reacted very well in the second half,” Upamecano appraised, via Bayern’s official website. “Of course, we could have played better in the first half. In the end, we have one point and that’s good.”
Upamecano also told beIN Sports the following: “We want to win every game, that’s our mindset. I think the team spirit is very good. When you see how the attackers track back and defend, it’s great to see. We’re a team together, we saw that today, especially in the second half. We played a very good second half. It’s not easy to get a point here. Especially Guirassy is a very good striker, but I told him today that he was not going to score and it worked well.”
Finding the positives on a difficult day is a rare quality. But it is made easier when the difficult days are the exception, which Bayern need to prove will remain the case in next week’s DFB Pokal clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
