C&H’s earlier exclusive that Niclas Füllkrug has travelled with the West Ham squad to face Leicester City tomorrow is excellent news for both the player and the club.
However, nothing has changed regarding his unhappiness in England, and it is understood that the striker would look to move back to Germany if at all possible.
His return to fitness, though, could prove to be a massive boost not only for Julen Lopetegui’s chances of keeping his Hammers job but also as an opportunity for the German striker to prove his worth. If the attacker can hit something approaching top form, it could persuade a Bundesliga team to make a bid for him.
At present, there have been no transfer offers or even tentative interest in Füllkrug, who has failed to settle at the London Stadium. Not only has he struggled to make an impression with current head coach Lopetegui, but he has also had a public falling out with the man likely to succeed him—Edin Terzić.
Last week, a top source at the London Stadium informed us that the £27m forward could still ask to leave and that all eventualities remain on the table. As a result, the club has continued its search for a striker, with the only real certainty being that Michail Antonio will remain at West Ham until at least the end of this season.
