Xavi Simons is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain for the Premier League or La Liga next summer, with Arsenal among the probable destinations.
David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that no decisions have been made on Xavi Simons’ future, and a lot can still change before the summer, but some close to the situation expect him to leave Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent basis next summer.
Those same sources are forecasting a move to the Premier League or La Liga, though there is also significant interest in the player from Germany. Simons is currently on loan with RB Leipzig, who would love to turn the move permanent if they could afford it.
Ornstein adds that Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are viewed as the most probable destinations for Simons, and Manchester United showed some interest over the summer.
Yet it’s not a sure thing that Simons will leave PSG. Despite sending him out on loan again, the player could stay, depending on his wishes and the decision of head coach Luis Enrique next summer.
PSG are expecting to bring in at least €80m (£66.5m) for Simons, though his valuation might change depending on how he recovers from his current injury.
After ankle surgery in October, Ornstein reports that the 21-year-old will be out until January.
Before that, Simons had scored three goals and assisted two in 11 appearances for Leipzig, largely operating on the left-hand side, but also playing as an attacking midfielder.
That could make him a useful addition in north London, with both the left-wing position and the left-attacking midfield position subject to a lot of rotation lately.
No one has really nailed down either role, opening up the possibility for a new signing to do so, or at least to provide options in both positions.
