Enzo Maresca does not doubt himself but says it’s normal for fans to doubt

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has spoken out on Chelsea fans doubting him when he first arrived at the club after he reaches six months in.

Yesterday marked exactly six months since the Italian arrived from Leicester City as the new Chelsea manager, and it is safe to say that not too many people expected big things.

It was only natural as well to be honest. Maresca has started incredibly well as Chelsea manager and he has gone way beyond expectations. Not many people even expected Chelsea to be challenging for the top four, let alone be spoken about as title contenders.

But it’s a fact that he arrived at the club as a very inexperienced manager who had never managed in the Premier League and presented a big risk. You have to take your hats off to Chelsea, who clearly saw something in Maresca and looked past his clear lack of experience to bring him in and take that risk.

Maresca has won over Chelsea fans for now

Whilst the majority of the Chelsea fan base are now won over by Maresca, he is smart enough to know how it can turn in an instant.

“They were normal [to have doubts],” Maresca admitted on Chelsea fans. “They are still normal. In the moment we lose games, there will still be doubt. I know how it works.

“We all are in the same situation. When you start, you don’t have experience. You cannot go to the supermarket and buy experience. So, you need time. But it’s not only for me, it’s for all of us in different jobs.

“In terms of doubting myself? No. When we finish some games and [the media] ask me: ‘Are you worried about this or that?’ I am always worried because I try always until the end to do the right things. But it doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in what I do.”
