AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders has emerged as a target for Tottenham and Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur have been exploring the possibility of bringing in a new midfielder in the winter transfer window, as Daniel Levy looks to build on the success that the Lilywhites enjoyed in the past summer window.
The North Londoners moved on the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso from their books in the summer, with the former becoming a leader in midfield for Marseille. While they did sign young talents such as Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, the club may feel they didn’t replace Hojbjerg adequately and want another option in the engine room.
-> Tottenham eyeing January midfielder addition; two targets identified
The chiefs at the Hotspur Way have identified AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as a possible target. The Netherlands international has been by far AC Milan’s best player in an otherwise inconsistent campaign so far. He has begun to thrive in the Champions League in his second campaign with the Rossoneri.
Tijjani Reijnders has played in different positions across the midfield and delivered the goods. He has netted seven goals and supplied three assists in 18 appearances across all formats, catching the eye of several top clubs across Europe. Now, according to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea have shortlisted the 26-year-old for a potential transfer.
New boss Enzo Maresca seems to have transformed Chelsea’s fortunes since replacing Mauricio Pochettino in the offseason. The Blues currently occupy the third spot in the Premier League table, having played some exciting and incisive football under Maresca. They are now looking to reinforce the midfield unit next month by signing Reijnders, who is under contract at Milan until June 2028 (Transfermarkt).
As for Spurs, they have been looking to bolster their options in the middle of the park as Ange Postecoglou looks to add creative flair and dynamism to his roster, and Reijnders could be seen as a potential incoming that has the capacity to fit into our gaffer’s system. Therefore, Chelsea entering the race for the highly-rated Dutchman is a big blow for Tottenham.

Interestingly, Reijnders is getting closer to a contract renewal at Milan, so this might not be anything for the Serie A giants to be concerned about anyway. That said, the Lilywhites perhaps would be wise to turn their attention elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.
