Son Heung-min has entered the final six months of his contract at Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur are far from where they were expected to be in Ange Postecoglou’s second season in North London.
The Lilywhites finished fifth in the Premier League last term, subsequently qualifying for the Europa League. They were expected to kick on and challenge for a top-four spot; however, things have not been great.
Spurs have endured a terrible season, filled with injury problems and a lack of consistency. They have won just once in their last seven games across all competitions and that has pushed Ange Postecoglou’s side down to 11th in the Premier League table. While this has plunged Postecoglou’s future into uncertainty, the chiefs at the Hotspur Way have started planning behind the scenes for the future.

According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are seeking a long-term replacement for their skipper Son Heung-min.
Son Heung-min is one of many players who sees his contract expire at the end of the season (Transfermarkt). The North Londoners are expected to trigger a 12-month extension in the South Korean forward’s contract, instead of tying him to a new lucrative deal, amid concerns over their growing wage bill. It has been supposedly decided by the club chiefs that it makes more financial sense to go on this path.
Although the 32-year-old has entered the final six months of his £190,000-per-week deal, Tottenham remain relaxed over not allowing him to walk away as a free agent at the end of the season thanks to inserting an option to keep him on board for a further 12 months. Should they activate the clause, it will prolong his stay in North London until 2026.
The aforementioned report adds that the decision-makers at White Hart Lane have been working hard on wide options for months to potentially replace Son, who is linked with a switch to Manchester United in 2025. While they agreed a summer deal with Gangwon FC for South Korea’s prodigious talent Yang Min-hyuk, who is poised to arrive at the club next month, he is viewed as a long-term prospect rather than a readymade commodity.

Son’s decline and injury problems have also helped persuade the club’s hierarchy that they should not commit to handing him more substantial terms at this stage in his career.

Tottenham have already identified Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman as a target, and given the Nigerian’s profile, he’d be a solid long-term replacement for our ageing skipper.
