2024 was a great year to be a fan of the Germany national team. In fact, it was a great year for both the men’s and women’s teams. In contrast to 2023, when both teams had quite a dismal year, 2024 was a wonderful comeback.
Fans of both teams and Bayern Munich as well will be even more pleased that two stars from both the men’s and women’s team were named Germany’s Players of the Year. Jamal Musiala snagged the men’s award, while Giulia Gwinn did the same for the women.
Musiala had a stellar year for the national team. He got the coveted No. 10 shirt at the start of the year, and ended up as joint top scorer at EURO 2024, while his country made a good run to the quarterfinals. His exploits did not end there, though, as he added two more to his tally in the Nations League and played a major role in Germany qualifying for the knockout stage for the first time.
Gwinn, meanwhile, had an even better year for the national team in terms of numbers alone, although that could be because the women’s team played more games than the men’s team. She scored a whopping eight goals, and Germany won the bronze medal in both the Nations League and the Olympics, while also finishing top of their Euro qualifying group. Most notably, Gwinn scored the winner against Spain in the bronze medal match at the Olympics, and also converted one of the penalties in the quarterfinal shootout win against Canada.
Bayern Munich fans can be extremely proud to have both their men and women representing on the international stage. Both players fully deserve their awards, and here’s to many more great performances for club and country!
