Glenn Murray has backed Eddie Nketiah to shine for Crystal Palace despite a challenging start following his £30 million move from Arsenal last summer.
The 25-year-old is yet to score a Premier League goal for his new club, though he has netted twice in the Carabao Cup.
Eddie Nketiah, who enjoyed an inconsistent time at Arsenal with 41 goals in 140 appearances across all competitions, often stepped up in crucial moments. He notably filled in during Gabriel Jesus‘ injury last season, scoring vital goals to keep Arsenal’s title bid alive.
Despite his contributions, he struggled to cement a starting role, prompting his summer move to Selhurst Park in search of more consistent opportunities.
At Palace, Nketiah has had limited chances as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s red-hot form—scoring four goals in his last three games—has kept him sidelined. Murray believes the forward will succeed once given a run in his natural position as a central striker, rather than being played out wide.
“He’s an out-and-out No. 9, and the club knew that when they signed him,” said Murray. “He hasn’t had the impact he’d have liked, but once he gets his chance, he’ll prove his worth. Mateta’s form is the only thing holding him back.”
Murray praised Palace’s squad, calling it one of their best in the Premier League era, and highlighted players like Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton as key contributors.
As Palace push for a top-half finish, Nketiah will hope to break into the starting XI and rediscover the goal-scoring touch that made him a fan favourite at Arsenal.
